Miller Nash LLP partner, Iván Resendiz Gutierrez, was recently confirmed and appointed to the Oregon Government Ethics Commission (OGEC). Appointed by Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, Iván was confirmed by the Oregon Senate to serve as one of nine commissioners. His term will run from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2028.
“I am deeply honored to serve on the Oregon Government Ethics Commission which is committed to impartially and effectively administering and enforcing Oregon's Government Ethics Laws for the benefit of Oregonians,” said Iván. “I’m looking forward to lending my experience and insight to this role alongside my fellow commissioners.”
Established by vote of the people in 1974, OGEC is charged with enforcing Government Ethics Laws, which prohibit public officials from using, or attempting to use, their official position or office to obtain financial gain or to avoid a financial detriment. OGEC also enforces state laws which require lobbyists and the entities they represent to register and file quarterly reports of their expenditures. The third area of OGEC jurisdiction is Public Meetings Law.
OGEC is comprised of a nine-member citizen commission, as well as fifteen staff members. Eight commissioners are appointed by the governor upon recommendation, two each by the Democratic and Republican leaders of the Oregon House and Senate. The governor selects one commissioner directly. All members must be confirmed by the Oregon Senate. No more than three of the members may be from the same political party.
