Miller Nash LLP is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed Diversity Lab’s Mansfield 5.0 program and has achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status—making 2022 the third year the firm has earned the Certification Plus distinction. The firm was one of 160+ leading law firms nationwide receiving Certification under Mansfield 5.0 and one of 108 firms receiving Certification Plus status this year.
In continuing its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, the firm is also proud to share that it is taking the next step by participating in the Mansfield Rule 6.0 Certification Program (2022-2023).
The goal of the Mansfield Rule program is to boost the representation of diverse lawyers in law firm leadership by broadening the pool of candidates considered for these opportunities. Mansfield Certification Plus status recognizes that, in addition to affirmatively considering at least 30 percent women, attorneys of color, LGBTQ+ attorneys, and attorneys with disabilities for recruitment, governance roles, equity partner promotions, and inclusion in formal pitch presentations to clients, the firm has also successfully reached at least 30 percent women, minority, and LGBTQ+ lawyer representation in a notable number of leadership roles and committees.
New to the 6.0 program, Mansfield firms will be required to consider at least 30% historically underrepresented lawyers when appointing to leadership roles and promoting into the equity partnership, among a dozen other activities that focus on the path to leadership. These activities include creating and publishing job descriptions for leadership roles.
“Our continued participation in the Mansfield Rule program helps us identify where to focus our efforts and we look forward to continuing our participation in the Mansfield 6.0,” said Kieran Curley, managing partner. “Our participation is one avenue through which we will continue taking action and invest resources in efforts to promote equity and inclusion within our firm and the communities we serve.”
Participation in Mansfield 6.0 aligns with Miller Nash’s commitment to achieving true diversity and inclusion across its firm, all levels of management, each practice team, committees, and staffing of every project. In addition to participating in Mansfield 6.0, the firm continues to take additional actions to further our commitment, which include offering 1L Diversity Fellowships each summer, creating a flexible day of paid time off to support racial justice and promote antiracist learning, and creating a firm cultural calendar that provides additional educational information and resources throughout the year for a broad range of cultural holidays. The firm remains a leader in sponsoring and participating in local minority bar association activities and events, offers fee discounts to small and emerging women and minority businesses, and continues to provide up to 150 hours of billable hour credit to attorneys for diversity and inclusion and pro bono work.
