Successfully enforced trademark rights in trademark infringement lawsuit.
Successfully represented university in tenure hearing regarding a professor’s just dismissal after allegations of bullying and harassment. The decision, first issued by the university committee, was then appealed to the university’s Board of Trustees, and then upheld by the circuit court.
Howard v. Waremart, Inc. After a five-day trial, the jury returned a verdict “in favor” of the plaintiff for only $2. This case involved a wrongful-discharge allegation and “whistleblower” claim brought by a former employee against our client. The court of appeals remanded the case for further proceedings because it disagreed with the trial court’s decision to grant a motion for directed verdict on the issue of punitive damages. The case then settled.
Represented multiple marina operators in addressing delinquent moorage accounts and derelict or abandoned vessels.
Represent numerous property owners and tenants resolving breach of lease claims arising out of COVID-19.
Assists with Affordable Care Act compliance, including advising about applicable large employer status, restrictions on lifetime and annual limits, rescissions, required notices, and grandfathered plan rules.
Assisted client in acquisition by a private equity firm. Work included assisting client in an F Reorganization, evaluating state and local tax consequences of transaction, negotiating tax-related provisions of transaction documents, and evaluating grants of carried interests to owners.

Obtained a comprehensive plan text amendment and zoning map amendment on behalf of a school district to allow development of a new elementary school on land formerly zoned for agricultural use.
