We have served as counsel to the Port of Longview since 2015. The Port is an important hub for commerce and economic development in the community, with eight marine terminals and 835 acres of industrial property along the Columbia River waterfront in Southwest Washington. The Miller Nash team, led by LeAnne Bremer, manages all of the Port’s legal matters across a wide variety of areas, including real estate leasing and development, infrastructure needs, environmental cleanup and permitting, procurement contracts, open public meetings laws, public records requests, and the review, drafting, and negotiation of a variety of contracts with agencies, tenants, and other parties.
Since the beginning of our partnership, our attorneys have worked closely with the Port on many projects, allowing the Port to expand, provide jobs to local businesses, participate in international trade and shipping, and stay compliant as a public body. Recently, we proudly assisted the Port with a major purchase of two parcels of real estate at Barlow Point in Longview out of a bankrupt estate. We are also currently involved in a major rail expansion project within the Port’s Industrial Rail Corridor that involves expanding the original two-track system with an adjacent six-track bed that is designed to accommodate full-length unit trains and in turn reduce congestion, increase efficiency, and create economic opportunity. This development will attract significant capital expansion, increase job opportunities, and allow the Port to continue to grow as an economic engine for Cowlitz County and the State of Washington. This project draws on many of our disciplines, including real estate, environmental, and public contracting and procurement.
