$75 Million Recovery―Bodily Injury/Religious Institutions. Acting as lead counsel for the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon’s insurance coverage team, we recovered more than $75 million from their insurers after years of litigation and mediation.
Represented vessel owner in all aspects of sinking of saturation dive support vessel in a Singapore shipyard. Representation included immediate sinking response activities, presentation and resolution of insurance claims for hull loss and liabilities arising from sinking, and pursuit of claims against shipyard for sinking of vessel. Resulted in successful resolution of all claims through mediation in London, England. This matter involved close coordination with affiliate counsel in Singapore and London.
Represented purchaser in the negotiation and documentation of transaction to purchase a western Washington micro-brewery.
Advised companies in multiple industry sectors—including banks, construction firms, educational institutions, and manufacturing and retail—on cyber-insurance and other risk transfer strategies in vendor and other contracts.
Represents bank in dispute over whether designated beneficiary or prior beneficiaries should take IRA funds where there were allegations of duress and elder abuse at the hands of the designated beneficiary. When designated beneficiary sued the bank in federal court seeking disbursement of the IRA funds, successfully moved to stay the federal court action while a state court suit was pending over the duress and elder abuse allegations.
Served as lead counsel in a highly public dispute involving four separate cases that included civil and criminal claims in state and federal courts in Washington and Oregon. Successfully and discreetly negotiated a complex global settlement on terms favorable to client while managing a high volume of press and social media coverage.
Snider v. Barrett Business Services, Inc. Our client (the employer) won a unanimous jury verdict in a case brought by plaintiff, a disabled worker, for discrimination and retaliation in her employment. The judgment was affirmed by the Oregon Court of Appeals.
Team defense of manager of refit for superyacht/oceanographic research vessel. Claims exceeded $11 million for mismanagement and resulted in defense judgment in favor of manager, recovery of management fees due, and all costs, expenses, and attorney fees.
Represented Pacific Northwest nonprofit organization in affiliation with another local nonprofit. Representation included coordination of due diligence and review of complex real estate holdings. Led deal team in the negotiation, drafting, and closing of complex affiliation agreement that included complex corporate governance and nonprofit organizational considerations.
