Miller Nash welcomes Craig Ashford to the Portland office where he joins the firm’s growing tax team. Craig previously served as in-house counsel for the University of Oregon for eight years and brings a wide range of experience assisting public entities with a variety of legal matters. His deep familiarity with the unique way that public entities operate informs his practical approach to advising executive teams and boards of directors regarding legislation, tax compliance, risk management, real estate development, executive compensation, bond issuances, fiduciary obligations, public records, and public meetings.
About Craig Ashford
Craig assists public entities, including higher education institutions, with an array of legal matters. While serving as in-house counsel, Craig was responsible for providing comprehensive legal guidance on a variety of matters, giving him a deep and cross-practice understanding of the business and legal issues that public entities encounter on a daily basis. He also worked in the Office of the Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service where he evaluated, prepared, and conducted investigations of tax-avoidance transactions with the U.S. Department of Justice and tax-related litigation in U.S. Tax Court. Craig received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University before earning his law degree at the University of Oregon School of Law.
