Local Business, Tax and Real Estate Attorney Rejoins Portland Law Firm

PORTLAND, Ore. – March 17, 2009 – Miller Nash LLP, one of the Pacific Northwest's larger multispecialty law firms focusing on business and litigation, has welcomed partner Ronald A. Shellan back to the firm. Based in the firm's Portland, Ore. office, Shellan will focus his practice on business matters and the intersection of tax law and real estate.

"We are thrilled to welcome Ron back to Miller Nash. He is a leader in the tax and real estate industry and his knowledge and experience have always been held in high regard at our firm," said Don Burns, managing partner of Miller Nash. "Ron is a tremendous asset to our clients and a resource for the entire Miller Nash team."

Shellan has been a lawyer since 1975, has been designated as a Super Lawyer by Law & Politics and brings extensive experience in tax law and real estate to Miller Nash. His practice areas include tax-free exchanges, affordable housing and low-income housing credits, historic tax credits, real estate law, partnership and LLC law, corporate and business acquisitions, and tax law. During his previous 17-year career with Miller Nash, Shellan was instrumental in developing the annual Affordable Housing Conference. Now, in its 16th year this May, the conference continues to provide a day of insight on financing, developing and building low-income housing projects.

Prior to rejoining Miller Nash, Shellan was in-house counsel for Guardian Management. Early in his career he worked with Coopers & Lybrand as a certified public accountant and served as a law clerk to the Oregon Tax Court. Shellan completed his undergraduate degree in accounting, magna cum laude, at the University of Washington and went on to earn a law degree from Willamette University, where he served as an editor of the Willamette Law Review.

Shellan takes an active role in his professional community. He has chaired the Oregon State Bar Tax Section and twice served as a member of the board of directors of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. He also served on the executive committee of the Oregon State Bar's Estate Planning and Corporation sections. Shellan was the founding president of the Portland Tax Forum and serves on the board of directors of Capital Pacific Bank.
